Past news of persistent value

  • My first youtube lecture!—1:27PM, Feb 26, 2015

  • I hope that everyone found some nice pieces of knowledge to express in the midterm. My solutions are posted here (also, note the new homework, while you are there). Some students asked about extra credit opportunities. My general answer is “figure something out nice (even if it is very basic) and write a professional looking report of it.” If you have difficulty identifying any nice small topic, then you can talke with me, e.g., during my office hours.—6:38PM, Feb 12, 2015

  • Please note that the solutions to homework 3 have been posted just now. Make a habit of reading solutions while your thoughts on the subject are still hot!—5:41PM, Feb 05, 2015

  • Some potentially useful information on the upcoming midterm is posted in Homework+. By the way, I know that I promised to give you report on your progress—I am still working on distilling database from the forum site, and I will be able to do so in a few days. Sorry about not being able to get the reports out yet.—12:50PM, Feb 05, 2015

  • From reading quiz 5, the deadline will be strictly applied in the following sense. If no answers are given in the answering box in the upper right corner by the beginning of the class time, then you will not get credit for the reading quiz. If you provide a long answer on the forum after the beginning of the class time, then you will not get any credit from them, even if I mark them as the best answer. These mechanisms will be applied by checking time stamps of the database of my web site. However, I am not necessarily discouraging you from having a late discussion on line or submitting a late make-up report, especially if you had a good reason for not doing the quiz before class begins. On the contrary, I encourage it, in general. It is just that how much you might get credit for late work, if at all, depends very strongly on the quality of your work. In any case, the true benefit of doing work, even if it is a little late, should be viewed as your true knowledge gained, which should help you in the exams.—10:14AM, Jan 22, 2015

  • If you click the Syllabus+ link above, you will see some new information on TA discussion sections and MSI tutoring sections. We now have the complete information on all sections, including rooms.—6:10AM, Jan 13, 2015

  • No class on Jan 15 due to my travel. It will be made up later. However, there will be a reading quiz 3 (double credit issue) posted on late afternoon Thursday to help you think physics even without class!—10:02AM, Jan 14, 2015

  • There will be no physical lecture next Tuesday (there is a lecture on Thursday!). Instead, I will upload youtube lectures. I am traveling through Wednesday, and so there won't be any office hours Monday and Tuesday. Please ask any questions on line.—1:32PM, Feb 26, 2015

  • Thanks for your participation in the doodle poll. (You can still participate in the poll, but I consider the poll to be statistically significant already.) The following is the optimum solution for my office hours: Mo 2-3, TuTh 12-1. (Mo11-12 turns out to be occupied by my other recurring schedule and it has been dropped.)12:29AM, Jan 06, 2015
