| * Your cooperation needed. From today’s class, I will be collecting your homework. When you hand in your homework, please place it in the <<color(right bin)>> on the front desk of the lecture hall. <<color(Your bin will be defined by your last initial)>>—there will be seven such bins on the front desk, alphabetically grouped. Thanks!!—~-<<DateTime(2014-01-16T09:27:40-0800)>>-~ * I need to be out of town next Wednesday (Jan 22), so I cannot have my office hour, then. If you would be affected by this, and you have idea about how I can make it up, I am all ears.—~-<<DateTime(2014-01-15T12:59:13-0800)>>-~ * Reading quiz 3 is up now. On a related note, this page (“How do I do the reading quiz”) has been updated substantially. Please read it now!—~-<<DateTime(2014-01-15T08:58:28-0800)>>-~ |
* Midterm is over. Check solutions (Homework+) and fill in the gaps of understanding, if possible. Much of it would continue to matter for the final exam, also, since we will continue doing waves, and interference, and so on, just with a different wave (light) for the next few lectures. Also, while you are at Homework+, remember to download Homework 5 if you did not pick up a hardcopy right after the exam.—~-<<DateTime(2014-02-14T17:09:28-0800)>>-~ |

Welcome to the second part of Physics 5!
In this course, we will continue the exploration of the introductory physics. We will start with the simple harmonic oscillator. Then, we will study waves in general. This will lead to geometric optics and related topics. Lastly, we will come back to fluids and statics. If we somehow run out of time, we might leave some topics like fluids for reading only. I like to go through the simple harmonic oscillator and waves, slowly but surely, so that we cover these supremely important topics well enough.
