Final exam
Here is the histogram of the final exam scores (grading rubrics are here).
Exam and its solutions.
Correction: reference frame → instantaneous inertial reference frame in part l (see here).—7:55PM, Jun 10, 2015
Changes: “general” removed from parts k and l.—7:55PM, Jun 10, 2015
Correction: The total points: 120 points → 130 points. Extra credit still remains at 20 points (but it can be adjusted later, if necessary).—1:13PM, Jun 05, 2015
Homework
Homework 8, due 10 AM, June 8: Special Relativity (solutions)
Change: 40 points are extra credits now.—7:37PM, Jun 05, 2015
Correction: Problem 2(d): “there” removed and one “,” removed.—12:03AM, May 31, 2015
Homework 6, due May 21: Waves, Fields, Radiation (solutions)
Correction: Problem 2: the beginning of line 9, “(or $y$)” → “(and $y$)”.—5:16PM, May 19, 2015
Correction: Problem 2: (3) $\tilde \epsilon = 0$ → $\tilde \varepsilon = 0$.—3:50PM, May 18, 2015
Homework 5, due May 7: Group velocity, Wave guide, Guage transformation (solutions)
Homework 4, due Apr 30: Electromagnetic waves (solutions)
Change: Problem 4: Screening time → Dissipation time.
Homework 3, due Apr 23: Waves (solutions)
Change: Problem 3 is now worth 10 points, not 5 points.
Homework 2, due Apr 16: Conservation, Waves (solutions)
Homework 1, due Apr 9: Conservation principles (solutions)
Change: Problem 3 is moved over to Homework 2, since technically we did not cover the angular momentum, yet. However, do not worry if you had already done this problem. The TA will be able to grade it already. So, you can submit your solution for problem 3 this week or the next week, and the grade for it will be applied to homework 2.
Quiz
Quiz 1, Apr 16: Conservation principles (solutions) (Grading Rubric)
Midterm exam
- Here is the histogram of the midterm scores (looks like a hat!; these are adjusted scores, not raw scores).
- Here is a note on the grading by the TA.
The grading scheme was as follows: 1a - 15 pts 1b - 10 pts 1c - 10 pts 1d - 15 pts 2a - 15 pts 2b - 20 pts 2c - 15 pts As for other important rubric bits, the only thing that really stands out is that for part A of the first problem, if they didn't define their k-vector, they lost points, but then if they later defined it then I gave them the points for it there. It didn't happen often, but points for part A of the first problem are spread out for a handful of students.
