Kevin Hambleton (khamblet@ucsc.edu), the tutor for this class has sent me this information, which can be useful for you. http://www2.ucsc.edu/lss/tutorial_services.shtml Here is the link for the Online Tutor Signup System (OTSS), where students actually sign up for specific tutoring sessions: https://eop.sa.ucsc.edu/OTSS/tutorsignup/ I have already posted the sessions on the OTSS website so students should be able to find them. The tutoring service starts on October 14th.
Books
This course will not have any required textbook, and my lecture notes will not follow any one book. However, the following are recommended to aid your learning (the first two had been ordered at Baytree).
Classical Mechanics, by R. Douglas Gregory (Cambridge)—nice careful discussion of the subject; This book is my recommendation, if you like to buy one book to go along with this course.
Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems, by Stephen T. Thornton and Jerry B. Marion (5th ed; Cengage)—this is a nice time-tested textbook, which has unfortunately become too expensive.
Mechanics, by L D Landau and E.M. Lifshitz—highly recommended if you like to be challenged by one of the most succinct and beautiful discussions of the subject.
The Feynman Lectures on Physics, vol. 1, Richard P. Feynman, Robert B. Leighton and Matthew Sands.—Any time you pick up this book, you may be in for a treat. Now freely available online!
