Exam

  • Final exam

    • The exam and the solutions.

      • Correction: The solution for problem 3: an extra factor of $\pi$ was erroneously kept in early parts---that piece of $\pi$ is now removed, throughout (thanks DH, CW, BS, and CM!)—1:07PM, Dec 16, 2014

    • Some example problems are listed here. (solutions)

      • Correction: The solution for 5(d): a missing $\cos \theta$ factor is put in (thanks, KD!).—10:38AM, Dec 14, 2014

      • Correction: The solution for problem 4(a) had a digital pad noise that caused the appearance of $\ddot l$ (thanks, EH, who pointed this out!). This is now fixed. There is no $\ddot l$. There is only $l$.—8:19PM, Dec 13, 2014

    • There will not be any review session for the final exam. But, here are some review materials.

    • On Friday, Dec 12, I will have open office hours from 9 AM through 2 PM. Also, you can use the online forum to discuss any challenging issues.
    • Two crib sheets of US letter size paper filled on both sides are allowed for the final exam.
  • Midterm: The midterm on Nov 4 will cover materials up to Lecture note 9. However, materials in lecture notes 8 and 9 will be treated very lightly.

Quiz

Homework

  • Homework 8, due Dec 11: Coupled Oscillators (with solutions)

    • Correction: Pages 3 and 5: the center element of the $T$ matrix and its inverse must be $-2/\sqrt{6}$, not $-1/\sqrt 3$ (thanks SS!).—12:42AM, Dec 15, 2014

    • Correction: Problem 4, line 2: gravity → no gravity (thanks PK!).—11:43AM, Dec 10, 2014

  • Homework 7, due Dec 4: Gravity, Many particles (with solutions)

  • Homework 6, due 1 PM, Nov 21 (ISB 249): Effective potential, Constraint, Poisson bracket (with solutions)

    • Change: Due date.—1:21AM, Nov 18, 2014

  • Homework 5, due Nov 13: Principle of least action, Lagrangian, Hamiltonian (with solutions)

    • Correction: Problem 2 (a),(b) solutions: One sign error (part (a)) and one trigonometric error (part (b)), corrected.—3:25PM, Nov 15, 2014
